The Mental Resilience Master (MRM) Community has its patterns of rituals that they kick start their day to ensure they are firing on all cylinders as their journey through their day. I am not going to cover the details of what is done in the community, how it is done or why is it done that way, instead this blog is to enlighten the population at large on the significance of disciplining to do your Morning Ritual.

The power of morning silence, in reaching within oneself for stillness, is divine. It’s amazing how this practice, sets the mood for the day, and it’s startling to see the outcome of people who have been doing this practice for a period.

What is the significance of an Early start from a religious perspective?

Waking up early holds significant importance in various religious faiths, symbolizing devotion, discipline, and a connection to the divine. Here are some illustrations from different religious traditions:

1. Hinduism

In Hinduism, waking up early, particularly during the Brahma Muhurta (the time before sunrise, approximately 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM), is considered highly auspicious for spiritual practices.

  • Brahma Muhurta: This period is believed to be the best time for meditation, yoga, and chanting because the mind is calm, and the environment is quiet.

Many Hindu scriptures, including the Vedas and the Puranas, advocate for early rising to engage in spiritual disciplines, as it is thought to enhance mental clarity and spiritual growth.

Hindus believe that practices performed during this time help align with the natural rhythms of the universe and promote overall well-being.

2. Christianity

In Christianity, waking up early is often associated with seeking God and personal devotion. The Bible includes several references to rising early to pray and seek God’s guidance.

For Christians: — The bible refers to Mark 1:35: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

The Bible makes further reference in Psalm 5:3: “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

Christians believe that starting the day with prayer and meditation helps set a positive and purposeful tone, aligning their actions with God’s will.

3. Islam

In Islam, waking up early is integral to the practice of the faith, particularly for the Fajr prayer, which is one of the five daily prayers and is performed at dawn.

Fajr Prayer: The Fajr prayer signifies the start of a new day with spiritual reflection and connection to Allah. It’s believed that prayers at this time are especially blessed.

The Quran 17:78: “Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Quran at dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.”

Muslims see this early morning prayer as a time to seek forgiveness, guidance, and blessings for the day ahead.

4. Buddhism

In Buddhism, early rising is associated with mindfulness and meditation. Monks and lay practitioners often wake up before dawn to begin their meditation practices.

Monastic Discipline: Buddhist monks follow a strict schedule, waking up early to meditate, chant, and study the teachings of the Buddha.

Dhammapada Verse 276: “You yourselves must strive; the Buddhas only point the way.”

Early morning meditation is seen to cultivate mindfulness, concentration, and insight, setting a peaceful and mindful tone for the day.

5. Sikhism

In Sikhism, waking up early, specifically during the Amrit Vela (the early hours of the morning before dawn), is a time for Naam Simran (remembrance of God’s name).

Amrit Vela: Sikhs are encouraged to rise early and engage in meditation and recitation of Gurbani (scriptures) to start the day with spiritual consciousness.

Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh Scripture): “Amrit Velaa Sach Nao Vadi-aa-ee Veechaar” (In the ambrosial hours before dawn, chant the True Name, and contemplate His Glorious Greatness).

This practice helps Sikhs maintain a spiritual connection and carry the divine presence throughout their daily activities.

Human Beings in their quest for Happiness and Fulfilment, in their journey of Life, need a basic foundation to work out off. This I have found is only attained when their Purpose is well set and aligned with their body mind and spirit. That synchronicity is further enriched when their values, and core belief stem from a base foundation. Hence their beacon of light — Their Northern star will shower with clarity their life direction, helping with their Modus Operandi for the day.

When their daily routine stems out of this foundation, without doubt, it will be highly productive and efficient.

  • How to Implement: Start with just 5–10 minutes of meditation or mindfulness exercises.
  1. Physical Exercise
  • Why It Works: Exercise boosts energy levels, improves mood, and enhances cognitive function.
  • How to Implement: Choose an activity you enjoy, whether it’s jogging, yoga, dancing or a quick workout. Aim for at least 20–30 minutes each morning.
  1. Healthy Breakfast
  • Why It Works: A nutritious breakfast fuels your body and brain, improving concentration and performance.
  • How to Implement: Ensure you have a balanced meal with proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. Examples include a smoothie with greens and protein powder, oatmeal with nuts and berries, or eggs with avocado.
